The 2011 Autumnal Equinox is this Friday, September 23rd at 5:05 AM EDT.  The days will be approximately 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness.  Of course as it continues into fall, and then winter, the days get shorter and the nights longer. 

While its supposed to get hot again this week, I can already feel a touch of fall coolness in the air and see the sun setting earlier in evenings.  Yesterday in the park, I could see several trees with their leaves turning a golden yellow and falling to the ground.  And so the wheel of life continues to turn. 

My friend Jon Robinson posted this drawing on facebook this morning.  He told me he drew this back in 1980, inspired by a painting of a monk his grandmother owned.  He wants to update this with him looking inward and meditating. 

What talent!!!  I can't even draw a good stick man!!!

I bought a Pagan Pride magnet for my cruiser. It says practice diversity. Now you may wonder what an avowed atheist is doing at a pagan pride event. Its a pretty diverse group and, while I don't believe in their god/goddesses either, their diversity would hopefully accept a skeptic like me. I would be comfortable at a gay pride event even though I'm not gay either.

Hopefully it won't be stolen off my car and I won't get the finger from those who may hold different views.  We'll see.

I went to the 2011 Pagan Pride Day Festival at Whittler Narrows Park on Sunday. This is my third year in attendance, and it has grown both in attractions and attendants each year. It was a really nice day with the temps in the 80's and nice breeze blowing thru the park, After checking out the booths, I found myself a nice spot to sit under a tree and take in the sights.

This was a circle ritual being conducted in one part of the park.  There were probably 50 people involved in the circle.

This Lady Gaga look-alike showed up about 2:30 and wondered  around the park with her dog and a friend with another dog.

There were lots of period costumes, including this guy who has been there each of the last three years.

According to "The Guardian," the discovery of the contract for the Beatles August 31, 1965 concert at the Cow Palace in Daley City, Ca. shows the group's stand against inequality. The contract states that the Beatles would "not be required to perform in front of a segregated audience."

The Beatles took a public stand on civil rights in 1964, during their first American tour, when they refused to perform at a segregated concert at the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida. City officials relented, allowing the stadium to be integrated, and the band did take the stage for that show.

The Beatles were ahead of the times in more than just music.  I find this to be awesome.

The "October" in Oktoberfest seems to be a misnomer as Oktoberfest 2011 started today in Munich, Germany.  The tradition started in 1810 for the celebration of the wedding of Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen to Prince Ludwig.

Oktoberfest is known for buxom women in traditional Bavarian Dirndl dress and large mugs (liters) of beer. This year a liter of beer will run $12.00 each.  Oktoberfest will run until October 3rd.

"Ron de Jeremy" a new rum out named after the porn star. Its from Panama, aged for 7 years and containing 40% alcohol.  Its described as dry and elegant, with notes of green apple, vanilla, honey and butterscotch.  Its well-endowed (as it should be) with flavor, very woody and spicy.  The reviewer suggests drinking the rum in cocktails like Rona Colada and Ron & Coke, "but it tastes best with a couple of drops of water or neat - naked, if you will."  I would have thought the neck of the bottle would have been ... oh larger.

Looks like CHP still hasn't learned how to do a proper felony stop.  This photo was taken after an hour-long pursuit of a guy who robbed a bank in Fullerton Thursday.  I guess I should be glad they didn't just run up on the car, but brought the suspect out and laid him on the ground.  Note the officer at the left front quarter panel of the unit to the left??  Yikes!!!

In an interview in Parade Magazine, Brad Pitt said, "we'll get married when everyone can."  Awesome!!!

Sunday, 09-18-11 is the 2011 Pagan Pride Day LA/OC at Whittier Narrows Regional Park from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM.  Go to www.paganpridela.org for directions.  Parking is $6.00 entry is free with a can good donation to their food drive.  There is live entertainment, booths, food, and plenty of people watching.  See ya there around noonish!!!

My good friend Jack and his Saturday morning bike ride group went to Tahoe over the weekend for a ride around Lake Tahoe.  Jack described the ride as "good, and a challenge at 72 miles at that elevation."  Jack also told me the weather was in the low 70's and they got heavy rain on and off the last 15 miles.  Nothing better than water splashing up into your face as you ride!!!

The Tennessee Department of Revenue, Taxpayer and Vehicle Services Division rejected a PETA employee's request for this personalized license plate citing vulgarity.  Their DMV thought this license plate said I-LOVE TO F**K YOU, when in fact Whitney Calk of Murfreesboro, Tn. wanted to covey I-LOVE-TOFU.  Or so she says.....

The WCPD Family lost another member this morning.  Gordon Coulter lost his battle with cancer.  Gordon was a good man and will be missed.

TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE WEST COVINA POLICE DEPARTMENT:

 It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of our Department Chaplain, Gordon Coulter. Gordon passed away last night after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Many of you knew Gordon very well. For those of you did not know him, Gordon was a full-time police officer (id number 131) with our agency from 1975 to 1979. Since 1979 Gordon has served the men and women of this organization as a Reserve Officer and our Department Chaplain. Gordon also served as a professor at Azusa Pacific University and a local pastor. Gordon not only had a tremendous influence in the lives of our police department family, he also ministered to thousands of people in our local community.

In honor of the life and service of Gordon Coulter, all personnel wearing a metal badge shall adorn it with a black band until the morning after his memorial service. We will provide further information on the services when available.

So yesterday, on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, F-16's were scrambled to shadow two flights that had observed "suspicious activity in the restrooms."  In one flight, three men were detained who made several trips to the restroom and were believed to be giving each other hand signals. The three were released without being charged.

On the second flight, two people spent a suspicious amount of time in the restroom.  Subsequent investigations revealed that the couple were just joining the "mile high club."  LOL

I'm so glad that 9/11 has come and gone.  Am I the only one who was appalled by the media being absolutely orgasmic over the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the United States? 

The fact  that this was a tragic event  resulting from a combination of religious extremism, blind hatred, and decades of misguided American imperialism, has largely escaped their notice.  Instead the media has decided to turn this into a human interest story in which they obsess over every detail about how 9/11 changed everything.

And what has changed?   We are bogged down in two wars. One that never should have been launched against Iraq, and neither of which has improved our ability to not be attacked in the future.  In fact we are probably hated more now because of these two wars.  We have sold the American soul down the river by openly torturing prisoners, in violation of every treaty we as a nation have ever entered into. We are holding prisoners without due process in prisons around the world.  We are being patted down and porn scanned before getting on a plane.  Who knows the true extent we are being spied on by our government today.

You may call me heartless.  I know innocent people died.  I know that there were thousands of "heros" in the aftermath of the attacks. But I think its time to move on from this.  Get over it.  The money spent on this one day alone could have fed thousands of homeless people.
