Rode from Anaheim Stadium to Huntington Beach this morning. It was overcast and cool, but not cold and windy like the last couple of weeks. Summer is here and with summer comes the crowds. The boardwalk was packed with people who shouldn't be on bicycles and it's quite dangerous to ride at any speed because the kids and adults alike don't look before stepping out from between parked cars or away from stores and bathrooms. 
 

The newest thing at the beach seems to be beach soccer and today they were having a tournament of some sort.  The photo above is of Zacks, which is located at Pacific Coast Hwy. and Beach Blvd.  This where Karen and I meet when I finish my ride.  In the off season Zacks is closed and the beach is pretty deserted.  Today was definitely a summer crowd. 

Karen couldn't get our usual parking meter just up the street and had to park in a pay lot.  $15 to park, plus if you wanted to use a credit card it was an extra $2.85 for the bank fee.  We usually put $6 in the meter. 

Damn banks don't make enough money, they have to hit up the businesses for fees to handle credit card transactions which in turn the businesses get from the customer.  Last week I bought gas at a Mobil station and they charged less for cash than to use their own credit card!!!!  Damn banks!!!

Scott and Bruce are in New York City this weekend taking in the Tony Awards. These photos were posted by them on facebook within the last couple of hours.

I'll be attending a fingerprint class at Glendale P.D. for the next three days.  The class is entitled "Simultaneous Impressions."  It's been a long time since I've been to any work related training, so this will be interesting.  I'm especially interested in the parts about "error rates, documentation, and future considerations."  In order to avoid driving two hours each way in bumper to bumper traffic, I'm staying at the Portifino Inn in Burbank for three nights.  Not much to look at from the outside, but the room is clean and close to a McDonald's for breakfast.  I don't need much.  LOL 

Last weekend former Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda spoke at the University of La Verne commencement ceremony. 

According to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, after a glowing introduction by Jack Meek, professor of public administration, which included Lasorda's many championships, awards and his 64-year-career with the Dodgers, Lasorda's well documented playful side and quick wit made an appearance.

"After that introduction, I thought I was dead," Lasorda said to laughter from the crowd.

On a more serious note, Lasorda's message was to "keep believing in your dreams."

This is one of 29 guns recovered by TSA in the last week. (Ugly thing) Other gun violence in the last week includes three gun-cleaning accidents, four home invasion shootings, (bullet accidently enters someone elses house) six target practice accidents (including one in which the victim was shot at a toddler's birthday party over a mile away), four people showing off new guns who accidentally shot themselves or the people they were showing off to, three who bought guns for family or self-protection and ended up shooting themselves and/or family members with them instead, and two cops and two soldiers involved in accidents. Ages of some of the victims are 2,7,14, 15, 15,17 & 17, and two teenagers of unknown ages.

There was a case where a man defended himself from an intruder. He shot the intruder, who turned out to be his stepson, who was an actual intruder, but shot his wife as well. Maybe he did hit his intended targets!!

Happy Birthday wishes go out to German model, television host, businesswoman, fashion designer, television producer, artist,and occasional model,Heidi Klum, who turns 40 years young today. Ms. Klum is divorced from singer Seal and she has four children.
 

 

Ms. Klum has appeared on the cover of "Sports Illistrated" (among others) in 1997 and was the first German model to become a Victoria Secret angel.  As an actress, Ms. Klum has appeared on "Spin City", "Sex and the City", and How I Met Your Mother." 

I've talked before on this blog about Ms. Klum's beliefs on nudism.  She has stated more than once that she walks around her house nude and isn't much interested in keeping her bathroom door closed.  She says she grew up with parents who were open about nudity and visited many a nude beach with her family in Italy.  She says her parents still walk around their home nude and aren't shy about changing clothes with or in front of Heidi. 

Wikepedia states that Ms. Klum spends time visiting patients at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles.  Funny, my son has never invited me over when she is there.  LOL

I'm sorry that we've lost Emmy Award actress Jean Stapleton who died Saturday from natural causes.  Ms. Stapleton was 90 years old.  She won three Emmy Awards for her roll as Edith Bunker on the 70's comedy series "All in the Family" with Carrol O'Conner, Rob Reiner, and Sally Struthers.
