This is a nice summary of the behind-the-scenes action at the Oscars.  Jennifer Lawrence seems more than anxious to show her boobs for Ellen.  She made the same statement  to Ellen when they were posing for the "selfie" during the broadcast.

Weekend News

Over the weekend we received several inches of rain.  Friday I think we were hit by a little tornado.  A large gust of wind hit the house and caused the door from the garage to the house to fly open hit the wall and slam shut.  It also caused a door to the closet that used to house our heater to fly open and it caused the cover of the attic to fly up.  We also had several claps of thunder.  Pretty cool.

Saturday I was rear ended in Eastvale coming home from Jamba Juice.  Some lady didn't see that I had stopped for traffic in front of me and ran right into the back of my FJ Cruiser.  There was no damage to my car, but my bike rack did a job on the hood of the lady's cube car.  We exchanged names and went on our separate ways.

Last week I signed up for 24-hour Fitness.  There is a real nice gym about two miles from our house. It has lots of free weights and machines, lots of cardio machines, and a pool with a steam room and sauna.  So Sunday afternoon I was at the gym and drying off in the locker room when a guy near me started to rant about the government after seeing a news clip on the TV about Russia invading the Ukraine.  Next thing I know he is ranting about President Obama taking away our guns.  Really?  So I asked him why, after five years as president, Obama hadn't already taken them away.  I know, why argue with them, but he started in on how President Obama was going to allow all the immigrants into the US so they would vote for the removal of the guns.  Some times I find it hard to believe these people actually believe these things.

I finished my latest book, "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown last night.  It was very good.  I realized I had read it before, but there were lots of things in the book I had forgotten, including how it ended.

Over the weekend Karen and I got to video chat with my son Brian through Facebook and see our new grandson squawk and cry.  Aw the wonders of technology.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Mrs. Justin Timberlake, aka Jessica Biel, who turns 32 years old today. Jessica is from my neck of the woods, Ely, Minnesota, Northern Minnesota.

Someone has too much time on their hands!

The other day I wrote about a law being considered by the State of Arizona, the "Religious Freedom Restoration Act" SB1062,  which passed the legislature along party lines 17-13.  The bill is awaiting the signature of Gov. Brewer.  The bill is designed to protect businesses, corporations, and people from lawsuits who refuse to provide services based on sincere religious beliefs.  The bill was written by the Center for Arizona Policy and the Christian legal organization Alliance Defending Freedom. 

The public immediately took the bill to be aimed at the LGBT community and caused quite an uproar.  So now, Sen.Steve Pierce (R) has had second thoughts and he and two other Republican Senators have sent a letter to Gov. Brewer asking that she veto the law.  Senator Pierce said, "I screwed up. I'm trying to make it right."

Why the sudden change of heart you may ask?  Something near and dear  to all politician's hearts - MONEY.  Money trumps religion every time.

Turns out Arizona business owners have spoken up about fears that the bill would scare business from the state including their bid for a Super Bowl in coming years.  "Sources" say that several businesses have already pulled out of Arizona because of the controversy.

So after reading "The Inferno" by Dan Brown, I went to the library and checked out "The Lost Symbol" by the same author.  I wasn't sure I had read it and rather than purchase it I went to the local library.  Turns out I have read the book but decided to read it again.  

While reading it, the main character Robert Langdon talks about the ancient Sumerians.  So I got on my laptop and looked them up.  Turns out they lived in what is now the area of Iran back in 5800 BCE.  They weren't cavemen types.  They had wheels and carts, used irrigation for their agriculture, and made pots and dishes out of pottery.  They built  adobe type walls for houses and walls to protect themselves and lived in cities of thousands of people.  They had their own language and had writing and math.  That's how you make an already good book into something extra.  

Virginia State Senator Steve Martin (R go figure) has posted on Facebook that a pregnant woman is just a "host" that should not have the right to end her pregnancy.  "I don't expect to be in the room or will I do anything to prevent you from obtaining a contraceptive," Martin wrote. "However, once a child does exist in your womb, I'm not going to assume a right to kill it just because the child's host (some refer to them as mothers) doesn't want it."

So if I'm at a dinner and there is a "no-host bar" does that mean no pregnant woman can purchase alcohol there?  

This resourceful young girl scout set up her table in front of a pot dispensary in San Francisco.  She sold 177 boxes of cookies in two hours.  Can you say munchies boy and girls!!!  LOL
