I had a conversation with a co-worker about this very thing on Wednesday.  I made a couple of suggestions based on what seemed to work at my former place of employment and he told me I just didn't understand the culture of my current organization.  Which apparently said change is very hard to come by here.  This from a person in a position who could effect change.  So with an attitude like that, I will no longer offer any suggestions, which is an attitude unfortunately that stifles any further chance of change.   

Saw this commercial today. It would appear that football season is just around the corner.

Our first stop on our vacation was at the 320 Guest Ranch. The ranch is located on the edge of Yellowstone National Park. We spent one day at Yellowstone and another day in Virginia City, Montana, an old mining town. This was the inside of our cabin. 

We did some horseback riding and ended up with a couple of sore butts. We rode for two hours and worked our way up and back down the mountain side. 

The last evening we had a cart ride to a BBQ along the river that runs past the front of the ranch.

The four nights we spent at the ranch were very relaxing.  We had free breakfast buffets each morning and a roasted pig dinner one night and a BBQ on  another night.

Twenty-five years ago today the movie "Dirty Dancing" was released starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. 

Happy birthday to former President Bill Clinton who turned 68 Monday. I can still remember seeing him in person during one of his presidential campaigns in a park in Ontario. 

Robin Williams took his own life while we were on vacation so I haven't had a chance to comment about it. The man was so talented and I loved him in so many roles.  Depression can be a silent killer, and although I have never been suicidal, I can attest to being dragged down the bunny hole by the disease.  FoxNews Shepard Smith called Williams "such a coward" for taking his own life, which tells me he has no personal experience with depression.

I loved Robin Williams in Mork & Mindy, Good Morning Vietnam, Patch Adams, Dead Poets Society, and Peter Pan, to name just a few.  Robin Williams will be missed.

Had a great vacation!!  We drove 3,665 miles in 11 days through 7 states.  We saw lots of great country, lots of animals, and lots of rain.  This photo was taken along the river that ran in front of the 320 Guest Ranch at a BBQ and hay ride.  

 

This reminds me of the day I started advanced traffic collision investigation school in San Diego several years ago.  My intermediate class was nothing more than a speed from skids class. So when the teacher started writing mathematical equations on the board and saying "these should look familiar to all of you" I think my head hit the desk as well.  LOL

Karen and I will be off this Friday for an 11-day road trip starting with four days at the 320 Guest Ranch in Gallatin Gateway, Montana.  http://www.320ranch.com/   We are driving from there to Mt. Rushmore for two nights and then two nights in Denver where we will take in a Colorado Rockies baseball game.  Really looking forward to it.

Good idea.  Better idea, drop your gloves and fight it out until you fall down and then go sit in the penalty box for five minutes.  (Jack - that's a ice hockey reference)

I had to buy a new Ipod Shuffle this last weekend.  My last one went through the wash machine for the third time and just wouldn't charge anymore.  It hung in there for the first two.  I miss having music on my bike rides.   

This is the third installment of the "All Souls Trilogy."  It came out July 15th.  I read it in about a week.  I recommend you read all three, starting with "A Discovery of Witches."   It's a great story about a witch and vampire who fall in love and battle others of their kind because witches and vampires aren't supposed to mix. The second book, "Shadow of Night" takes a trip back in time to London in 1590.  I has Sir Walter Raleigh and Queen Elizabeth, among others.  I picked up the first book in the "new authors" section of Barnes & Noble one day.  What a find. 

 

I've been absent for awhile.  I confess that the Israeli - Palestinian religious war has made me quite depressed.  So much useless death.  Because of that I felt that posting on Facebook or here on my blog was like screaming into a waterfall.  None of it makes a damn bit of difference.  So I stopped.  Thank you to those who inquired as to my well being.
