“Ancient moon priestesses were called virgins. ‘Virgin’ meant not married, not belonging to a man - a woman who was ‘one-in-herself’. The very word derives from a Latin root meaning strength, force, skill; and was later applied to men: virile. Ishtar, Diana, Astarte, Isis were all all called virgin, which did not refer to sexual chastity, but sexual independence. And all great culture heroes of the past, mythic or historic, were said to be born of virgin mothers: Marduk, Gilgamesh, Buddha, Osiris, Dionysus, Genghis Khan, Jesus - they were all affirmed as sons of the Great Mother, of the Original One, their worldly power deriving from her. When the Hebrews used the word, and in the original Aramaic, it meant ‘maiden’ or ‘young woman’, with no connotations to sexual chastity. But later Christian translators could not conceive of the ‘Virgin Mary’ as a woman of independent sexuality, needless to say; they distorted the meaning into sexually pure, chaste, never touched.”

Al Hirschfield - The Beatles "Abbey Road"

Karen and I went to our first Colony H.S. football game for 2014. It was tied 7-7 against the West Covina Bulldogs going into the final minutes of the third quarter. West Covina marched down to the Colony six yard line and couldn't score. Colony scored three plays later and that turned the tide for Titans.

I thought the game was going to turn on a coaches penalty.  During the third period Colony was called for roughing the Bulldog quarterback.  The defensive coach  went ballistic yelling at the referee and got a penalty.  The two penalties put the Bulldogs on the Colony 4 yard line, but the Bulldogs couldn't score. I hate to see the staff interfere in the play on the field like that.  To me, that's excusable.

The Colony Titan Regiment played part of it's 2014 field show at half time.  They sounded good.  The band looks bigger this year than in years past.  We'll have to attend a couple of their competitions this year.

I've been in a bit of a funk the last couple of days.  If you, or someone you know, is dealing with depression, here is a good article on what it's like to deal with depression.  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/26/depression-frustrations_n_5692649.html

Yellowstone National Park

We spend a day in Jellystone. We arrived at Ol' Faithful just as it was going off so we had to wait around for more than an hour for it to erupt again.

Just as were beginning to think all we were going to see were trees, we rounded a bend and happened upon many bison.  They seem to have the right of way on the roads, and who can argue with them.
