Went for a bike ride today (Thursday) and it was 100 degrees when I got back to my car at noon.  The heat really kicked my arse.  I received two new tires and four new inner tubes from Amazon.com today.  I think you can buy just about anything from them.  Used to be just books.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to a favorite around my house, actress JoAnna Garcia, aka Mrs. Nick Swisher, who turns 36 years young today.

JoAnne is married to Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Swisher and they have one child.

She played "Cheyenne Hart - Montgomery" on the hit series "Reba" from 2001 - 2007.

She currently stars in "The Astronaut Wives Club as "Betty Grissom."

In case you ever wondered how a lock works.

That's me.  Unlike Josh and Corey, I don't enjoy roller coasters.  I do enjoy sitting on a bench and people watching however.

I worked four days this week covering the office while my two co-workers attended a training conference in Sacramento.  One of the things I got to do was show off the forensics lab to a tour of middle school exchange students from Japan.

I showed them several photos of enlarged fingerprints. I had one of the students touch a coffee mug and then dusted it for fingerprints.  None of the students spoke English, and I have no idea what the interpreter was saying, but they left with a smile on their faces.  (Probably laughing at "that old guy in the lab)  LOL

Like picking up a piece of trash as you walk across a parking lot.

That looks refreshing wouldn't you say?

Last week a film crew was wondering around the station filming different aspects of our police operations for a recruiting video.  When it came time to film the crime lab my two co-workers seemed to disappear, so I ended up being filmed dusting a mug for fingerprints and looking at a super glued plastic bag with the alternate light source.  This photo was posted on the West Covina PD Facebook page.  If I ever see the video I'll post it, unless my part ends up on the cutting room floor.

It was quite interesting watching the four-man crew set up shots.  It takes awhile to get the lighting right etc, especially with my "high" forehead.  The guy to the right is looking at a computer screen that shows what the camera is filming and they set up the lighting based on what he sees.

August!!  My gosh this year is just flying by.

 The Manual Typewriter

Back in the day I took typing as a teen,
A class full of girls was the place to be seen.
A sheet of paper between the rollers and you’re ready to go,
Tap tap tap, ding, zip return, don’t you know.

Center your paper and set both the margins,
Tab to indent, then the typing begins.
Line after line and the paragraphs grow,
Tap tap tap, ding, zip return, don’t you know.

Making a mistake is a job in itself,
Go get the white out, it’s there on the shelf.
Use just a dab, then to dry you must blow,
Tap tap tap, ding, zip return, don’t you know.

The manual typewriter was “the” tool so they say,
Producing the scripts and the poems of the day.
Today it is thought of as clunky and slow,
Tap tap tap, ding, zip return, don’t you know.
