On the Road

I'm on the road to Bellingham, Washington to help my sister move my father into a assisted care facility. Yesterday I drove from home to Roseburg, Oregon, which was about 800 miles. Had good weather all the way up until entering Oregon when it started to rain. (of course) The photo to the right is of Mt. Shasta taken looking south from a gas station I stopped at just outside of Yreka, Ca. I had planned on staying at a local casino called the Seven Feathers Casino but when I got there the parking lot was packed so I didn't stop. It's pretty small with only 148 rooms and I didn't have a reservation. I meandered on up the road and found a very nice Sleep Inn instead.

This Sleep Inn is pretty nice. It is very clean and well taken care of. The shower was hot and had lots of water pressure. What more can you ask for. I got a free breakfast that included frosted flakes, orange juice, toast, and coffee. That saved me about $12.

The road is always filled with interesting and varied experiences. I didn't even make it out of San Bernardino County when my cruiser suffered it's first wound. The windshield was struck by a rock and left a nice dimple the size of a dime right in the middle of the windshield. It's right at the base so it doesn't effect my vision out the window, but it's still there. Hopefully it won't start to spider web out from there and crack the windshield.

Last night I found an Arbys in Roseburg for dinner. It was set off the road a bit and the parking lot was pitch black. I walked inside and a young guy was mopping the floor in the dinning room. He looked up and told me he'd be with me in a minute. About four minutes later he arrived and took my order. When I took my order out to the dinning room all the condiments had been put away so I had to ask for catsup. As I was eating, the young man continued to mop and mopped right past my table. I had to skate on the wet floor over to get a refill on my soda. The food was very good and hot so I can't complain about that, but it was quite interesting how they treat their guests. They weren't scheduled to close the dinning room for another hour. He must have had a hot date to go to.

I woke this morning to partly sunny skies. I feel better after a good nights sleep and a cup of coffee. It's almost 9:00 am so I had better hit the road. More later.
