Happy Birthday wishes go out to English musician, singer-songwriter, activist, actor and philanthropist, Sting who turns 60 years old today. Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner was born in Wallsend, Newcastle upon Tyne, England.  Sting has been married twice and has a total of six children.

Sting attended Northern Counties College of Education and worked as a school teacher at St. Paul's Middle School for two years.

Sting gained his nickname after performing in a black and yellow sweater that made him look like a bee.  Sting is quoted as telling a reporter, " my children call me Sting, my mother calls me Sting, who is this Gordon character?" 

Sting performed with the group "The Police" from 1978 to 1983.  The Police reformed in 2007 for a world tour. 

Sting also has had a successful solo career.

Sting has garnered a total of sixteen Grammy Awards and several Oscar nominations for Original Song. Sting is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
