I attended the West Covina Public Safety Recognition luncheon Monday. I had an opportunity to see many old friends and co-workers.

The Forensic Identification Unit received a Unit Citation for its service to the department.  Jim O'Brien (far right) worked in the unit from approximately 1987 (he couldn't remember for sure) to 2000 when he retired. I took over for Jim and worked in the unit until 2004 when I retired.  Tedde Stephan currently runs the unit and Jan Poirior is the unit CSO.  Jim came back and works two days a week.  The only one missing is David Cole who is off IOD.  Cole took over when I retired and is the link to Tedde.

Jan also received a "Life Saving Award" for providing CPR instructions over the phone as a dispatcher that saved the life of a 2-year-old who fell into a pool.  This is Jan's second "Life Saving Award."

Tedde Stephan, with Chief LaComarre, was named "Officer of the Year" for his work in the FIU.  Tedde is also quite involved in the Los Angeles County fingerprint community and a real pleasure to know.
