Abused Again

They came and they shared
Their grief and their pain.
Some lost in sorrow
So many deep in pain.

With story after story
Of abuse and attack.
Life changing moments
They’ll never get back.

Reliving the pain
Once buried deep inside.
Echoes of destruction
Where parts of them died.

But the senators didn’t listen
Or dare give a damn.
But attacked them again
Or dismissed out of hand.

What took her so long?
Why can’t she recall?
Mistaken identity
She was drunk after all.

So the victims are again victims
They’re just cast to the side,
The cost of doing business
As democracy died.

A lost opportunity
a chance to redeem.
Lost to the ages
Or so it would seem.
