The Anticipation of Christmas

With Christmas now just weeks away,
The excitement grows more day by day.
The tree is up and trimmed in lights,
The stockings hung to cause delight.

Outside lights adorn the eves,
Climbing the ladder gives me the heaves.
The snowman is a yearly guest,
With top hat and a matching vest.

Christmas lists are being compiled,
Hints and tips: some strange, some mild.
Computers, movies, and gift cards too,
As for me, I have no clue.

I need to shop, but hate the mall,
Nowhere to park, no fun at all.
I’ll shop on line and pay to ship,
And hope no porch pirate takes my gift.

Christmas cards to write and send,
Chosen wisely to not offend.
The manger or a Santa Claus,
Decisions that will make one pause.

We’ll order a ham and bake a pie,
I love Christmas dinner I cannot lie.
With deviled eggs and stuffing too,
And a piece of pie before I’m through.

Despite my angst I have to say.
In anticipation of Christmas Day.
Hope your preparations exceed the ordinary,
As for me, I’m expecting a coronary.
