A Journey
I took a quick left at hither and yon,
Steps built of books, some pro and some con.
Where do they lead and where do they end,
Who are the authors and why were they penned.
Let’s lift up a cover and turn the first page,
Delve into the mind of some ancient sage
We’ll learn of his loves, his loses, his pain,
Cry out for his anguish, rejoice in his gain.
We’ll learn that he conquered; we’ll learn that he bled,
We’ll learn he was great, of this it was said.
We’ll live his adventures, take them as ours,
Bask in the pages, for hours and hours.
Each step’s an adventure, just open a cover,
From this book to that, no one like the other.
Each step that you climb encourages one more,
Eager, ye anxious, for all that’s in store.

Justin has encouraged me to write poetry. It started with him writing short poems and putting them on Facebook and I began to respond to them. This is my first attempt at a poem on my own.
The Road Calls to Me
The road constantly calls to me,
Teasing me with the secrets of her twists and turns.
What’s over that next crest, or around the next turn she purrs,
What adventures lie ahead on this side or that?
Join me she pleads, exposing a glimpse of the sultry ribbon
of her pavement,
What have I hidden in that secret place, that out of the way
corner.
What pleasures will you behold, indeed, what treasures will
you find,
Tucked away on the back roads of your journey.
Stretch out your hand, I can take you there, she pleads
breathlessly,
Hurry, there’s so much I have in store for you, so much I
want you to see.
My pleasures await you, I won’t disappoint you,
The road constantly calls to me, a sirens song of hushed anticipation.

The Ankh was the Kemetic symbol for life, also know as the handled cross. It represented the unification of the feminine and masculine forces of the universe and creation of new life. It portrayed both the spiritual and physical aspects of life. The phallus represents the male and the circle on the top represents the female yoni or origin of life.
I wear an ankh as a symbol of the male/female connection and the origin of life.
