Two West Covina Police Officers shot a man to death after he confronted them behind a Target store on Azusa Avenue near the BKK Landfill, authorities said. Police received a tip from Target store employees that a suspicious person was walking around the parking lot.
Sheriff's Homicide Lt. Gil Carrillo said the man began fighting with police. The man grabbed one of the officer's batons and began striking officers, Carrillo said.
Police then shot the man to death, Carrillo said.
Both officers were injured and one suffered a broken wrist from the confrontation, authorities said.
