Is America a Christian nation? (A satire)
As a follow-up to an earlier post, I am happy to report that Dayna Morales, the most recent gay waitress to be stiffed of a tip from a Christian diner, has had an outpouring of support.

"People have sent me tips from all over the world just to show support. I have had people from Germany to South Africa, Australia to the UK, San Diego, everywhere."
Morales says that between the people who have called in to the restaurant to give credit card numbers, those who have mailed tips, or donated to a special PayPal account the restaurant set up, she estimates that she has received more than $2,000 so far.
She plans to donate the funds to the Wounded Warrior Project, and the restaurant plans to match the donations and give it to a local LGBT organization.
The general manager of the restaurant, Byron Lapola, did not release the family's names, adding that "we fully respect our guests' privacy."
Lapola posted support for Morales on the restaurant's Facebook page:
"Dayna is one of our absolute best servers working here at Gallop. We as a team were deeply hurt by the events that transpired. I myself as the General Manager took it personal as my team treats each other like a family. I made sure that Dayna was compensated for the tip, as for emotionally I wish there was much more I could do. One thing I can say is that people of that woman's kind business is not welcome here at Gallop, and I can assure you that if they decide to dine here again that they will be turned away."
Way to go Mr. Lapola!!!

Happy Birthday to Vice President Joe Biden who turns 71 years old today.

Dear Amy: I recently discovered that my son, who is 17, is a homosexual. We are part of a church group and I fear that if people in that group find out they will make fun of me for having a gay child.
He won't listen to reason, and he will not stop being gay. I feel as if he is doing this just to get back at me for forgetting his birthday for the past three years — I have a busy work schedule.
Please help him make the right choice in life by not being gay. He won't listen to me, so maybe he will listen to you. — Feeling Betrayed
Dear Betrayed: You could teach your son an important lesson by changing your own sexuality to show him how easy it is. Try it for the next year or so: Stop being a heterosexual to demonstrate to your son that a person's sexuality is a matter of choice — to be dictated by one's parents, the parents' church and social pressure.
I assume that my suggestion will evoke a reaction that your sexuality is at the core of who you are. The same is true for your son. He has a right to be accepted by his parents for being exactly who he is.
When you "forget" a child's birthday, you are basically negating him as a person. It is as if you are saying that you have forgotten his presence in the world. How very sad for him.
Pressuring your son to change his sexuality is wrong. If you cannot learn to accept him as he is, it might be safest for him to live elsewhere.
A group that could help you and your family figure out how to navigate this is Pflag.org. This organization is founded for parents, families, friends and allies of LGBT people, and has helped countless families through this challenge. Please research and connect with a local chapter.
My first response to the letter from "Feeling Betrayed" was how selfish she sounded. She is more concerned about being made fun of by her church friends and feeling attacked for forgetting her son's birthday than any concern for what her son is going through. I like the part where Amy tells mom to change her own sexuality to show her son how easy it is.

History will be made today in the Land of Lincoln when Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signs into law a bill allowing same-sex couples to get married. To help separate fact from fiction, here's a helpful guide you can slice off of your monitor with a penknife and keep handy in your wallet for present and future reference.

Claim: Before the ink is dry, waves of locusts will swarm the entire state and make life a living hell.
BillyFact Rates This Claim: False. Locusts always wait until after the ink is dry. Then you're screwed.
Claim: Gay couples can't get married immediately after the law is signed.
BillyFact Rates This Claim: True. The law actually takes effect next June for a very good reason: Because.
Illinois Unites for Marriage logo after Illinois victory
True!!!
-
Claim: There's no way to prevent the sky from falling when the law takes effect.
BillyFact Rates This Claim: False. An elaborate system of hydraulics (with backups) will keep this from happening, and each unit is controlled separately to prevent systemic failure. Some sections of the sky may sag during scheduled maintenance, but this is temporary and such work will only be done at night.
Claim: The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) is fully prepared to flood the state with millions of dollars to get the law repealed and restore heterosexual values to Illinois.
BillyFact Rates This Claim: False. Their latest tax returns show that NOM is nearly 3 million dollars in the red. They can't even bring heterosexual values to a cup of coffee anymore.
Claim: It's okay to laugh at the incompetence and disarray at NOM.
BillyFact Rates This Claim: True.
Claim: Gay marriage means kissing, and kissing increases the risk of cooties.
BillyFact Rates This Claim: True. But cooties vaccinations are now covered under the Affordable Care Act. Details at healthcare.gov/cooties.
Claim: Catholic Bishop Thomas Paprocki is going to spend today conducting an exorcism that will cleanse the state of "evil" homosexual demons.
BillyFact Rates This Claim: False. Catholic Bishop Thomas Paprocki is going to spend today being a whiny 12th-century asshole.

60% chance of rain on Thursday!!!

This is Robert Richie, Executive Director of America Needs Fatima, a campaign of the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property.

The America Needs Fatima web site describes their goal "to fulfill this desire in spreading our Lady's message, America Needs Fatima has organized pro-life rallies, anti-blasphemy protests, the distribution of millions of fliers nationwide, a home visitation program enthroning statues of Our Lady of Fatima, and the promotion of books and devotional items. All seek to draw people closer to God and His Blessed Mother."

Mr. Richie askes;

The massive tornadoes that hit Illinois after the passing of the same sex “marriage” bill, has stimulated many people to reflection.

In it, some see God’s chastisement; others see it as yet one more merciful warning from Providence; others yet deny both options and give various reasons.

Happy birthday wishes go out to Jodie Foster who turns 51 years young today.

I try to keep this in the back of my mind when I see people doing something irritating, especially while driving to and from work.

I attended the West Covina Public Safety Recognition luncheon Monday. I had an opportunity to see many old friends and co-workers.

The Forensic Identification Unit received a Unit Citation for its service to the department.  Jim O'Brien (far right) worked in the unit from approximately 1987 (he couldn't remember for sure) to 2000 when he retired. I took over for Jim and worked in the unit until 2004 when I retired.  Tedde Stephan currently runs the unit and Jan Poirior is the unit CSO.  Jim came back and works two days a week.  The only one missing is David Cole who is off IOD.  Cole took over when I retired and is the link to Tedde.

Jan also received a "Life Saving Award" for providing CPR instructions over the phone as a dispatcher that saved the life of a 2-year-old who fell into a pool.  This is Jan's second "Life Saving Award."

Tedde Stephan, with Chief LaComarre, was named "Officer of the Year" for his work in the FIU.  Tedde is also quite involved in the Los Angeles County fingerprint community and a real pleasure to know.

Fox News is outraged, outraged I tell you, because President Obama isn't going to attend the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address by President Lincoln.

Fox News's Brian Kilmeade discussed with Wall Street Journal columnist Daniel Henninger whether it is "inappropriate for our president to bypass" the commemoration ceremony of the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address during the November 19 edition of Fox & Friends. At one point Kilmeade asked whether Henninger thought Obama was refusing to attend because "after that address and after the Civil War we still weren't a perfect union? We still had to wait for the Civil Rights Act and so many -- the integration of schools, Brown vs. the Board of Education?" Henninger replied, "I think probably that President Obama does think the unfinished business remains unfinished in bringing the country and its races together."

"Civil Rights Act?"  "Integration of schools?"  "Brown vs. the Board of Education?"  Does anyone else detect a racial undertone??  Talk about manufactured outrage.
