In recent weeks Israel conducted "military exercises" to simulate an attack on Iran with the blessings of the United States. President Bush has been saying for months that the use of force was an option available to stop Iran's nuclear program even though U.S. intelligence agencies have said that Iran is not trying to make a nuclear bomb.
Now Iran has test fired a missile capable of reaching the Israeli city of Tel Aviv as both sides posture like jr. high school boys getting ready to fight. Here's the story from BBC.com.
The US and Israel have condemned Iran after it test-fired a long range missile capable of reaching Tel Aviv.
Iran state media said nine missiles had been fired in total, including a new Shahab-3, with a range of 2,000km (1,240 miles).
The launches were intended to deter any Israeli or US strike against Tehran's nuclear installations, says BBC diplomatic correspondent Jonathan Marcus.
On Monday, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader said it would retaliate against any military attack by hitting the Israeli city of Tel Aviv.
Other commanders have threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, through which a large part of the world's oil flows, and to target the US and its allies around the world if Iran comes under attack.
From what I have read, if Iran tries to close the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. Navy would step in and fight to secure it. I've also read that Israel can't possibly hope to win a war against Iran and that the U.S. would really have it's hands full if they attack Iran.
