Colony H.S. won it's opening round football game of the C.I.F. Southern Section playoffs 21-6 over Paloma Menefee. The game was close throughout the first half with Paloma scoring on a blocked punt that they recovered in the end zone and Colony scoring on a pass late in the first half. The half ended with the score 7-6.
The second half was a flurry of mistakes and penalties by both teams. Colony scored a touchdown late in the third quarter and another in the fourth quarter. Colony's defense held Paloma scoreless the entire second half with the help of a couple of crucial penalties by Paloma. Colony plays Upland H.S. next Friday at Upland H.S.
As I side note, I found it interesting, if not a little disturbing, watching one of the referres before the game as he walked along the sidelines adjusting the yard markers. He would squat over the marker and line it up exactly with the yard line. The disturbing part was that on several occasions he moved the yard line marker maybe an inch or, ofter just a nudge. Interesting.
