Arizona State Senator Ron Gould pulled his bill to deny U.S. citizenship to children of undocumented immigrants because of lack of support from other senators. The biggest influence may have been from state businessmen who testified before the Arizona Senate about the loss of tourist business in the state and businesses not coming to the state because of Arizona's stand on illegal immigration.
So, once again, money talks - bullshit walks!!!

Dear Dad,
I had a real nice time visiting with Suzy and Kathy last weekend. We laughed and told jokes, many at your expense I'm afraid. Yes, there may even have been a nose joke or two. I'm sure that's not any surprise to you. We also told stories of our childhood. Stories like how Mom used to rip your T-shirts off of you when they would develop a hole, or all the trips you used to make to get Mom ice cream.
I especially remember the time I got to go to work with you when you worked on that ice cream truck over the summer in Virginia. How I got to sit up in the front seat of that big truck with you and make deliveries, or the time you had to come to the police station and get me after I was picked up for shoplifting candy from Cornets.
I'm sorry I wasn't able to get there before you left on your journey. None of us really knows for sure where your journey will take you, or if you will ever be back. I truly hope it's a restful journey. You earned it, losing both parents young, living in the depression, fighting in WWII, working your way thru college with a wife and two kids, raising five kids, a wife who battled various forms of mental illness. On and on the list goes.
But Dad know that I will always carry you in my heart and remember you as a loving father and the positive influence you were on me and so many others in your life.
Restful journey Dad. Restful journey.
Love always,
Kenny

I think the few folks who actually visit this blog already know that my dad passed away in his sleep Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, and that I am driving up to Bellingham, Washington to help out my sisters.
Well I have made it to Bellingham safely and in one piece. I am sitting in what must be the only Starbucks in town as there are four state troopers, two local PD, and two university officers in here having coffee. Two of them are Sgts. so I guess they're safe. I would feel really safe too, except that it was in Washington where that guy walked into a restaurant and open fire on several officers having breakfast. I think I'll leave!!!
I will probably only be up here , and then head back home. There isn't too much to do here. I'm mostly going to be emotional help for my two sisters.

Wanna feel old???
Happy Birthday wishes go out to Catherine Ross who turned 71 years old on Saturday!!!Catherine Juliet Ross was born in Hollywood, California. She started her acting career with small roles on television series such as "The Virginian" and "Gunsmoke."
In 1967 she played "Elaine", Dustin Hoffman's girlfriend in the movie "The Graduate." I remember going to see that movie at the Fox Theater in Pomona. Katherine received an Oscar nomination and Golden Globe for "most promising female newcomer."
In 1969 Catherine played "Etta Place" in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" with Robert Redford and Paul Newman. More recently she starred in "The Stepford Wives" and won a Golden Globe for best supporting actress for her performance in "Voyage of the Damned" in 1977.

How sad is this???
More American soldiers, both active duty men and women and veterans, died at their own hand than died in combat in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2010, 468 soldiers died in combat, while 468 committed suicide. In 2009, 381 soldiers committed suicide, once again exceeding the number killed in combat.

We've had some gorgeous weather the last few days here in SoCal. Thursday I rode my bicycle from Anaheim Stadium to the Huntington Beach Pier and back. It was clear, about 78 degrees, and a slight breeze when I started. This is the view from Zac's at the pier. You can see Catalina Island off in the horizon.
This is where the Santa Ana River joins the Pacific Ocean and about 12.5 miles from Anaheim Stadium. Not much for surf and the tide was out.
