I just finished reading "The Camino - A Journey of the Spirit" by Shirley Maclaine. It was a very good book and I recommend it to those interested in learning more about their own spiritual understanding.
The book is the story of her personal journey along the Santiago de Compostela Camino in Spain. It is the story of her spiritual and physical pilgrimage of nearly 500 miles across Spain. This famous journey has been taken by thousands of people including St. Francis of Assisi and Charlemagne.
The book not only chronicles her day to day struggle along the road, but also goes into the visions and revelations she experienced. The last third of the book delves into the idea that we were all born androgynous, both male and female, in the image of God. After living hundreds of years in this fashion, we were separated into males and females. I won't spoil the rest for you. Read it if you dare. I'll even loan you my copy.
