Traffic came to an abrupt halt and it was stop and go as the snow continued to fall. I suddenly realized the highway ahead was closed and they were taking us off and routing us into the city of Tehachapi. We wondered around in 4-wheel drive as the snow continued to fall. The snow was quickly up to about 6" on the ground. My cruiser did great in the snow and it was actually a lot of fun. Well except for one hill that we kind of slid down because of the ice. Luckily there was no on-coming traffic!! We were able to find a McDonald's and took refuge there for about an hour.
While in McDonald's the snow fall began to taper off. It looked like we got about 8" of snow in all. We made our way over to as close to the on ramp as we could and parked behind a Walgreen's Drug Store and waited.
At a little after 5:00 pm the highway was finally opened and we were again on our way. We arrived at our hotel at a little after 10:00 pm. So our 5.5 hour drive to Salinas turned into an 11 hour adventure.
