The presidential campaign has gotten very ugly this week. It seems that John McCain is getting more and more desperate as he falls lower and lower in the polls. McCain has resorted to practically calling Barack Obama a terrorist, although he wouldn't say it to his face in the debate earlier this week. This story about Obama "palling around" with Bill Ayers, a former weatherman bomber, is ridiculous. But McCain and Palin are whipping up the crowds at their rallies to the point that they are yelling out such things as "terrorist", "kill him", and telling a black cameraman to "sit down boy".

No one is really buying any of this? Or so I thought. Thursday afternoon while relaxing at a local Barnes & Noble book store, I got into a conversation with a guy a little older than me who was a firm backer of McCain and Palin. He thought Palin had all the experience needed to be president because she had been a governor, and thought Obama was definitely a Muslim, and most likely a terrorist because of his past relationships.

I was just amazed sitting there and listening to this man. Is it really that people think Obama is scary, or a Muslim, or a terrorist? Or is it a deep seated fear of having an African American as president?
