The Philosopher’s Stone
Hunched over the stained and battered table, the Magus
examines each sacred word of the ancient tome splayed before him.
The dark scrawling script on the withered pages are not new to him,
but each new examination is made in hopes of a new enlightenment or
the slightest hint, to the mysteries of, dare I say, the philosopher’s stone.
Legends and folk lore would have the simple believe that the
co-mingling of base metals could produce gold or silver, and hence,
untold fortune. However, the “magnum opus” or “great work,” of those
such as Plato and Nicolas Flamel, was to produce the “elixir of life.”
Laughed at for years, derided at every turn, the Mystic never wavers
from his pursuit for the tiniest of particulars or the merest of signs.
Steadfast in his exploration, bathed under the light from a single candle,
the Alchemist soldiers on with patience and fortitude, tenacity and resilience.
Just as he has for the last 750 years.
