Vandalised billboard in Idaho.

Celebrated Karen's birthday last night. She has been under the weather all week, so her birthday celebration was a low key affair.

We went to dinner at Chili's Restaurant and were joined by Josh and Corey. Karen had her favorite salmon with broccoli dinner, I had chicken tacos.

After dinner we had chocolate cake. Karen received some girly stuff from Bath and Body and some Sketchers walking shoes. A good time was had by all and she remained 29 years old again this year.
Went for a bike ride at Bonelli Park today (Thurs.) I did three figure 8's around the park and nearby Brackett Airport for just over 26 miles. Didn't run over any squirrels or see any snakes. There was a lot of debris on the dirt path at the west end of the airport from the recent winds.

It was a beautiful day for a bike ride. The skies were crystal clear and temps were in the low 60's. There was no one on the lake so it looked smooth as glass.

I went out this evening at 8:10 PM to see if it had cooled off enough to turn off the air conditioner and open up the doors and windows and saw a bright light next to the moon that wasn't moving. I remembered once before seeing a similar light and finding out it was the planet Venus.

Well tonight it is the planet Jupiter next to the moon. I wish I had a good enough camera to take a picture of it. Perhaps I will be able to find a photo of it in the morning on the Internet. But this depiction shows exactly what I saw tonight.

Is that awesome or what?

After many sittings at the local Barnes and Nobel stores, I finished reading Dan Brown's new book, "The Lost Symbol." It was very good and I can already see it in a movie soon.

The book follows Brown's character in "The Da Vinci Code" and "Angels & Demons", Harvard University symbolist Robert Langdon. The plot takes place over a 12 hour period in Washington D.C. and involves the Smithsonian Institute, the Washington Monument, and United States Capitol, and a focus on the secrets of the Freemasons.

Many of the reviews of the book refer to it as a "page turner" and I have to agree. Lots of surprises. I highly recommend it.
A reader of scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/ sent in this photo to that website. It is a photo of a moose strolling along a country road near Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The story indicates that the moose is walking on a single lane road, not a foot path, which would put that moose at about 7' to 8' tall. I didn't realize that they grew to be so large!!! Look at the size of those antlers!!

Amazing!!

My sisters paid a visit to a local pumpkin patch in Washington State. Rumor has it that arrest warrants are pending.

Went on a bike ride at a new place today, Martha McLean Anza Narrows Park. It's along the south side of the Santa Ana River in Riverside. The park has a $5 entrance fee, so I will have to park else where next time. Saturday was a beautiful day for a bike ride, with blue skies and temps in the mid 80's. I rode a total of 35 miles.

This is an historical marker in the park where some group of settlers crossed the river back in 1774. I didn't see any of them near the river today!!

This is a photo of a really cool railroad bridge that crosses the Santa Ana River and the bike path goes under. I went west first and found this bridge about 100 yds. from the park. I was able to ride about 8 miles w/b until I ran into Arlington Ave. There is a nature center out there, as well as places to park horse trailers. I could see some model planes flying in the hills south of the bike path.

I also explored the bike path east for about nine miles. I ended up crossing under the 60 frwy. and traveling another five miles north of there. In looking at the map, the bike path n/b goes all the way under the 10 frwy. under the 15 frwy., and stops at Waterman Ave.

I found this memorial along the bike path. There are a lot of dirt bike trails in the area and I would bet he died on a motorcycle rather than a bicycle on the bike path.

I was about 2 miles from being back to the park, and just peddling with my head down wanting it to be over, when I almost ran over this guy. Scared me for a second, but I went back and took a couple of photos. It doesn't appear to be a rattler because of the color and no rattle on the tail.

There was a sign along the bike path, near the nature center, that indicated that one day the bike path will run from San Bernardino to the ocean. 93 miles!! Don't know if I will ever see that. Never know.

Went for a bike ride today, no surprise there I suppose. I started my ride at the Yorba Linda Regional Park, which is generally in the area of the 91 freeway and Imperial Highway. I rode the bike path east to the end near Green River Rd. The distance, one way is about 7.5 miles. I went up and back twice for a little over 30 miles. The ride has a couple of pretty good hills to give my legs a good burn.

There was a lot of water in the river today. Run off from the recent rains no doubt. I don't think I have ever seen this much water in this little river before.

Took a break in the park between trips east and ate a banana and drank some (lots) of water. The park is a really nice park with a small lake in the middle. Lots of people walking, jogging, etc.

My bike now has over 2,000 miles on it. I think it's time to take it in for a checkup. I know the back wheel needs to be straightened. Just put new tires and tubes on a couple of weeks ago. I will have to wash off all the really cool mud that I got on it today!! Mountain bikes need mud!!

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Bristol Sheeran Marie Palin who turns 19 years old today. Bristol came to fame as the underage pregnant daughter of former vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin in last years presidential election. Bristol Palin gave birth to a son, Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, on December 27, 2008. The father of the child was her then fiance Levi Johnston. The couple broke up about 2 1/2 months after the birth of the child. The family seems to like long unusual names for their children.

Bristol is now a national spokesperson for abstinence only sex education for minors in the school setting. However Bristol told Fox News that abstinence for teens is "not realistic for all."

I've seen this photo on several blogs now. Apparently daddy was being deployed and the little girl didn't want to let him go.
