Easter - a pre-Christian pagan holiday, is named after a heathen goddess named Eostra, which is equated with Ostara, a West Germanic goddess of spring time or fertility. The pagan Easter festival was known as Ostarun. The holiday was set to celebrate life renewed after a dark winter with much dancing, eating, and gathering together of family and friends. And maybe even an orgy or two!!! You know those pagans.
