“Black Lies Matter”

“Black lies matter” he said with a smile,
With a need to demean,
to degrade,
to defile.

The social upheaval of our time made a joke,
To quickly dismiss,
with a sneer,
and a poke.

Three simple words said in response to my query,
To enforce the great caste,
Pecking order,
Superiority.

Minorities, and women, LGBT, and the poor,
Second class citizens,
“Them,”
Nothing more.

Hundreds of years later, the battle rages on,
With subtle manipulation,
Lost rights,
What a con.

But this is America, you know, “We the People,”
“land of the free,”
The same,
created equal,

I’ll take my stand with the oppressed and downtrodden,
And fight to the death,
For equal rights,
Still forgotten.
