A Single Rose
A single rose on every chair,
In honor of the one not there.
A hallowed chair; unoccupied,
A tribute to a life denied.
A humble church in a Texas town,
Empty now without a sound.
Sacred grounds now put aside,
A solemn reminder of those who died.
I feel their pain I can’t deny,
My words seem empty, though I try.
Express my anguish and my grief,
A heavy burden beyond belief.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust,
The peace of death to them entrust.
A single rose on every chair,
Arranged with tender loving care.
