I went to Brad Smith's buyout Monday evening. Had a few beers and saw a lot of old friends. Had a good visit with Laurie Pruitt and Irene Meza who is going to subpoena me for a 2004 case I was involved in. Oui!!
The chief showed up and gave his usual rousing speech and left shortly after that. Saw Ski there. He's looking pretty good.
Lot's of new young faces there. Was I that young and a cop?? Couldn't have been. LOL

Everyone is excited about the World Cup soccer tournament going on in South Africa. I have to say, I've never been a big soccer fan. I guess it's because I don't understand the finer details of the game. My son Brian is a big soccer fan. He played soccer from AYSO and club, up through high school, and at Cal Poly Pomona for one year before he broke his leg - playing soccer!!!
My wife is in a World Cup Soccer pool at work. She randomly ended up with Spain, which I'm told is a good team. Go Spain!! I'll need one of those horns.
I think I finally found a soccer team I can really get behind!!!My wife is in a World Cup Soccer pool at work. She randomly ended up with Spain, which I'm told is a good team. Go Spain!! I'll need one of those horns.

Today is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. It's also considered the first day of summer. Sarah Palin chose today as a national day of prayer for the oil spill in the Gulf. We'll see how that works out.
It's said that the Stonehenge monument in England was built to align with the sunrise on the summer and winter solstices. This photo would seem to prove the point.

Act of God downs "Touchdown Jesus"
This is "Touchdown Jesus", a.k.a. "Drowning Jesus", a.k.a. "Big Butter Jesus", a.k.a. "Quicksand Jesus", a.k.a. "King of Kings", a six story tall statue of Jesus at the Solid Rock Church in Monroe, Ohio.
This is what's left of Touchdown after it was struck by lightning on Monday evening at about 11:15 pm and it burnt to the ground.
Now if there really is a god, would it strike it's own likeness with lightning and burn it to the ground?? Hmm??

Remember this guy?? He is Rollen Fredrick Steward, aka Rock'n'Rollen and Rainbow man. He could be seen for years behind the goal posts of football games and other major sporting events sporting wild wigs and "John 3:16" signs.
Well I guess Rock'n'Rollen has fallenon hard times. Or should I say, he's doing hard time. Rock'n'Rollen is serving three consecutive life sentences on kidnapping charges. Seems in 1992 he lured two men to a hotel room with the intent to kidnap them for ransom and surprised the maid who locked herself in the bathroom. A stand-off with LAPD ensued and he threatened to shoot aircraft approaching LAX and covered the hotel room windows with "John 3:16" signs.

Once again I take to my computer to write to the local newspaper about an article they wrote. You'll get the gist of the article when you read the letter.
Re: 'In God We Trust'
The Ontario City Council agreed to display the motto, "In God We Trust" in a semi-circle above the city seal in the council chambers in City Hall. Well isn't that special. In a representative government, don't "we the people" have a voice in a decision such as this? Aren't we the "we?"
Councilman Alan Wapner claims responsibility for this move after reading literature from a group called "In God We Trust America." Interestingly, Mr. Wapner only seems concerned with any litigation that may be brought against the City. There is this silly little clause in the U.S. Constitution called separation of church and state you know.
But what about the loss of the feeling of unity this could bring. The article states that about 17% of California's population are atheist. What percentage of Californians worship other "Gods?" Are we to assume that the word "God" in the motto denotes all "Gods?" I think not. According to the web site ingodwetrust-America.org, the founder Jacquie Sullivan, "is known in her community as a committed Christian and a dedicated patriot, promoting love and loyalty to both God and Country." Hmm??
So if we ask Mr. Wapner which God he thinks the motto stands for, I'll bet we'll get something akin to, "the one true Christian God." If we do, then Mr. Wapner you are promoting segregation and division.
Mr. Wapner and members of the Ontario City Council - you are officials elected to represent everyone in your district. On this day it would appear that you fell well short of those responsibilities.
