I learned tonight while watching Monday Night Football that Don Merideth died yesterday. He was 72 years old. I don't remember him much as a football player, though he was the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys from 1965 to 1969. Don Merideth was named NFL Player of the Year in both 1966 and 1967 and led the Cowboys to the NFL Championship game in 1967 against the Green Bay Packers.

After his retirement from football, "Dandy Don" went into the broadcast booth with Howard Cosell and Frank Gifford. I remember he used to sing Willie Nelson's song, "Turn out the Lights" whenever a game's result seemed to be decided.
