"According to Greek Mythology, humans were originally created with four arms, four legs, and a head with two faces. Fearing their power, Zeus split them into separate beings, condemning them to spend their lives in search of their other halves."

Interestingly enough, many of the Gnostic Christians active before the Romans made Catholicism the official religion, believed that God made Adam in his image, which was androgynous, half man - half woman. God then split the two making Adam and Eve separate people.
Most who have studied religions have agreed that Christianity is a patchwork of many religions before it as well as pagan ideals. But you have to read something besides the Bible.
