October 15th was the 22nd anniversary of what has been voted the "Greatest Moment in L.A. Sports History," Kirk Gibson's homerun. It came in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series in Dodger Stadium against the Oakland Athletics. The Dodgers were the underdog in the series.

The Dodgers were behind 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th inning facing Oakland's premier closer, Dennis Eckersley. Kirk Gibson had injuries to both knees, was fighting a flu bug, and not in the starting lineup. Gibson was inserted as a pitch hitter in the pitchers spot and worked the count to 3-2 with two out and a runner on first.

Kirk Gibson jerked a "back door slider" with one hand into the right field pavilion and rounded the bases limping badly and pumping his fists. The Dodgers won the game 5-4.

That was Kirk Gibson's only at bat in the series. The Dodgers went on to win the World Series 4 games to 1.

I remember watching that homerun!!! Awesome!!!
