Today is opening day for major league baseball, even though it is Easter Sunday. Today there is a game between the Texan Rangers and the Houston Astros at 5:00 pm Pacific time.
Hope springs eternal on opening day. Each team starts out even steven, discounting the $213 million payroll of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Of course some of that goes to Manny Ramairz who is playing in Tiawan or someplace. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (I hate that name) check in at about $133 million and should do well if they can out hit their pitching. Alas, my Minnesota Twins are, once again, picked to finish last in their division. My fantasy team is chuck full of Dodgers and Twins again this year with hopes of better results than last year. Hope springs eternal. Play Ball!!!

Better late than never, I've learned that the "Human Rights Campaign" has encouraged supporters of same-sex marriage to change their facebook profile photos to this red and pink equals sign. This symbol for equal rights for all will remain my profile photo on facebook until all Americans can legally marry the one they love.

In case you ever wondered where the right wing wackos get their information, this short tape is in response to Homeland Security purchasing ammunition for their assorted law enforcement agencies involving over 100,000 officers. Pat Robertson is taking the opportunity to fan the flames of the right wing conspirators who believe that the Democrats, aka Obama, want to take away their guns so they can't repel the pending assault from either Homeland Security or the United Nations.
This article does a better job of explaining the DHS solicitation for purchase. http://militarytimes.com/blogs/gearscout/2013/03/15/homeland-securitys-ammunition-purchases-should-not-worry-you/

Happy Birthday to actress and country western singer Reba McEntire who turns 58 years young today. Reba has long been a favorite around the Ferguson house. We still watch the re-runs of "Reba" and her new series, "Malibu Country."
Karen and I saw Reba live at one of the local casinos and she puts on a great show.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to my favorite CSI Pauley Perrette, aka Abby Scuito from the hit series NCIS, who turns 44 years old today. Perrette is also a published writer, singer, and social activist. She is married to Michael Bosman and doesn't have any children.
Perrette was also the lead singer in the group "Lo-Ball", an all female group that performed in the Los Angeles area.
Perrette has a BA degree in criminal justice and was working on her masters in the field when she chose to pursue acting. Perrette started out doing comercials and voice overs. The NCIS series has been on the air for ten years, totaling 228 episodes. Perrette has been on the show the entire time.

Saturday evening we went to our second Dodger game in Glendale, Arizona. The Dodgers played the Chicago White Sox. It was windy in Phoenix all day, but it subsidded in time for the game. The Dodgers scored 6 runs in the 6th inning sending 12 batters to the plate. The inning was topped off by a bases loaded double by Andre Ethier. The Dodgers won 10-4.
.
Lasorda, who is 85 years old, was walking pretty slow. He suffered a slight heart attack in June of 2012 and walked like he had real sore knees.
Former Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda and current "special advisor to the chairman" walked the starting lineups out to the umpires at home plate before the game. Tommy got a standing ovation from the crowd. Tommy has spent 60 years with the Dodgers in various player, coaching, and front office positions. Tommy managed the Dodgers during their last World Series win in 1988.

North Dakota lawmakers voted on Friday afternoon to pass a "personhood" abortion ban, which would endow fertilized eggs with all rights of a U.S. citizen and effectively outlaw abortion in North Dakota. The measure, which passed the Senate last month, passed the House by a 57-35 vote and will now head to Republican Gov. Jack Dalrymple's desk. The Governor is expected to sign the bill into law. The personhood abortion ban says that life begins at conception and that the fertilized egg cannot be aborted.
The personhood ban will have far-reaching consequences even beyond abortion care, since it will charge doctors who damage embryos with criminal negligence. This after the state government's defunding of planned parenthood in the state has closed, I think, all but one clinic in the state that does abortions.
I can't imagine how this would get past the Supreme Court and Roe v Wade. The Republicans, who are trying to re-brand themselves after losing the last presidential election, sure aren't slowing down on their war against women and reproductive rights.
