Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 12th as Armistice day. In 1938 the United States Congress passed a resolution changing the Armistice Day holiday to November 11th. Armistice Day was changed to Veterans Day in 1954 to celebrate all veterans.
