Equality

We’re all very different, unique to be sure,
No one in this world can claim to be pure.
Blood lines have mingled for hundreds of years,
Making us “human”, the same it appears.

Some want to think they are better than the rest,
Standing quite proud and pounding their chest.
Resorting to violence to back up their claim,
Killing each other, it seems quite insane.

I am this color, this belief, or this rich,
I’m of the few that fit into this niche.
You are that color, that belief, or that poor,
You’re not even fit to stand at my door.

But under our skin where the good doctor goes,
Our innards all match from our heads to our toes.
Cut open our skin, and our blood pours out red,
And when we get older, we’ll all end up dead.

So let’s all “Imagine” as John Lennon dreamt,
As brothers and sisters we’ll make an attempt.
To respect one another as an equal and a friend,
And make our common love the means to the end.
